Findings from We Are Walsall 2040 public engagement

We Are Walsall 2040 has seen the biggest public engagement programme ever to be held in the borough. The results of this public engagement have been used to create the draft WAW 2040 borough plan, which will ultimately help WAW 2040 partners shape the long-term future of the borough.

During 2022 thousands of residents, businesses, schools and community groups all had their say on what they want the borough of Walsall to be like in 18 years’ time. Over 8,000 people, organisations and groups responded. Thank you if you took the time to take part and have your say.

Findings from the public engagement highlighted:

  • The need for regeneration and investment across borough. People told us they would like Walsall to be known as a desirable place to live in 18 years’ time.
  • A safer Walsall with low crime and anti-social behaviour. Respondents want to feel safe during the day and after dark.
  • Maintaining quality parks and open spaces is a high priority. People said that parks and open green spaces are a top priority and important for attracting visitors to the area.
  • Climate change is acknowledged as important, especially by younger generations. The impact of climate change on the borough is a concern for many.
  • Strong, resilient communities are key. People told us that the borough has a strong community foundation which should be further developed and strengthened.
  • You can find out more about the findings from the listening and engagement, read the draft borough plan here, and between 17 February and 21 March have your say on the draft borough plan.
